About Us

The Biomass VRE (Virtual Research Environment) is an advanced digital platform developed within the framework of the PNRR-ITINERIS project – Research Infrastructures for the Italian ecosystem, with the aim of supporting the scientific community and environmental decision-makers in the study, monitoring, and modeling of aquatic and terrestrial biomass.

Born from the collaboration between researchers and computer science, the Biomass VRE enables users to access, harmonize, analyse, and integrate heterogeneous data (from remote sensing, field observations, and laboratory data) through fully open-source scientific.

The VRE is an integral part of the digital infrastructures of LifeWatch Italy and has been designed to ensure openness and the reusability of tools and scientific analytical workflows, in accordance with Open Science and FAIR principles.

What You Can Do with the VRE

  • Analyse data from satellites, ecological models, and field observations
  • Integrate different data
  • Work online with open-access tools
  • Run and create your workflow

Who Uses It

The Biomass VRE is designed for:

  • Researchers, educators and students
  • Environmental agencies
  • Natural parks and forest managers
  • Public decision-makers and planners
